Navigating Transitions

If you have arrived here, welcome to a step on your journey towards your best self and family. Below you will find info on my practice, background and some logistics.

Approach

The pressures that constitute today’s culture don’t allow for an ease of growing up. It can be hard to find a solid path through global crises, over scheduling, social media, school stress and the disconnection of society. Sometimes unhealthy ways of coping arise. Anxiety screams that we should be prioritizing “DO” and fear over learning about ourselves. This can be especially true as kids transition to high school and college. Jen helps her clients get grounded, mindful, develop a strong sense of self and learn life skills to ride out the bumpy times. She has also come to be a trusted resource to parents in the journey of letting go and lends a supportive ear while also offering specific strategies.

Her warmth and authenticity, along with evidence-based approaches and 20+ years experience are here to guide you and your family to being your best selves. She has spent her career helping clients navigate the growing up process.

Supporting you as you process life is at the core of the practice.

Background

Jen (She/Her) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) specializing in kids, teens and families. Grounded in her Ohio roots, she began her career in politics and non-profit organizations where she focused on listening to people’s stories and understanding their experiences. Later, those passions evolved into the role of a therapist and trusted advisor in supporting families.

Jen spent 11 years at Children’s Colorado (formerly The Children’s Hospital) where she worked in all levels of care and many settings, including the ER, the general psychiatric inpatient unit and the anxiety clinic, yet her majority of time was on the Eating Disorders Unit. She coordinated patient care and individual and family therapy, ran groups, conducted evaluations and supervised other clinicians. She has been in private practice since 2013 and while currently is generalist in nature, she maintains the ED specialty and partners with a dietician in her building.

She is a mom of two and lives in central Denver. When not working, she can be found in search of a great cup of coffee (shade-grown, bird-friendly only please), snowshoeing with her dog Fraser and rescuing bugs from the perils of modern society. Jen strives to be her best self and is affirming in serving the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities. Jen is open to all perspectives, but having served as Director of a campus Hillel for three years she has a particular background in supporting students experiencing antisemitism.

For Disordered Eating:

If your child is suffering, it is crucial to put together a team that understands the complexities you and they are facing.  While maintaining a generalist practice, Jen’s Eating Disorder background spans 20 years through her work at Children’s Colorado and in private practice. She works independently with many clinicians and doctors in the area to provide best practice and partners in-office with dietician Emily Crowder, RDN to provide behavioral plans, meal coaching, parent empowerment and family therapy for clients with eating concerns and activity disorders.

Please note that if you are requiring an ED Evaluation, recent medical records and partnering with a dietician - (Emily or another provider) - will be a required component.
